Municipal strengthening
The municipality is the basic unit of the territorial organization of the State of Guatemala and the primary space for social coexistence and citizen participation in public affairs. Its function is to manage the interests of a community and provide solutions to its problems, promoting inclusive development, governance and local peace. Because of its proximity to the population, the municipality is a key natural space for the prevention and peaceful and constructive management of social conflicts. The Peacebuilding Project works with municipalities and Municipal Commissions for Human Rights and Peace to strengthen their capacities for the prevention, management and peaceful resolution of social conflicts in their territories.
